How to Test Your Camera, Microphone, and Internet Before Going Live

1. Test Your Camera

  • On Desktop:
    • Open the Tebtalks platform or the streaming software you plan to use (like OBS).
    • Go to the livestream event page and look for the option to preview your camera feed.
    • Check that the camera is focused on your face and that the lighting is adequate. Adjust your angle and lighting if necessary.
    • If you’re using external software like OBS, make sure your camera source is correctly added to your scene.
  • On Mobile:
    • Open the Tebtalks mobile app and navigate to the livestream creation page.
    • Choose to preview the camera before starting the stream.
    • Ensure the camera is clear, well-lit, and framed as desired.

2. Test Your Microphone

  • On Desktop:
    • In Tebtalks or OBS, ensure your microphone is selected as the audio input source.
    • Test your microphone by speaking to confirm the levels are active and not too loud or too quiet.
    • Adjust the microphone settings in OBS or your operating system’s sound settings to ensure the audio is balanced.
    • In Tebtalks, use any available sound check or microphone testing tools (if available) before going live.
  • On Mobile:
    • Before starting the livestream, check the audio input by speaking to ensure that the microphone is picking up sound clearly.
    • Use an external microphone if needed, and ensure it’s connected and functioning properly.
    • Adjust the audio settings in the Tebtalks app if there are volume or quality settings available.

3. Test Your Internet Connection

  • Check Internet Speed:
    • Use an online speed test tool (such as Speedtest.net) to test your download and upload speeds.
    • For smooth streaming, your upload speed should be at least 3-5 Mbps for 720p and 5-10 Mbps for 1080p streams.
  • Check Wi-Fi/Connection Stability:
    • If possible, connect your device directly to the internet using an Ethernet cable for a more stable connection.
    • If you’re using Wi-Fi, ensure you have a strong connection. Try moving closer to the router or reducing the number of connected devices to minimize interference.
    • Test your connection by opening websites or running another speed test while on the same network to confirm no unexpected drops or issues.

4. Test the Livestream Preview (if available)

  • Preview the Stream: If Tebtalks allows a preview mode for your livestream, use it to see how your video and audio appear to viewers.
  • Check for Latency and Sync Issues: Ensure that the video and audio are synced, and check for any noticeable delays or lag.

5. Test with a Friend or Co-host

  • Invite a friend or colleague to join the test stream if possible.
  • Ask them to provide feedback on the camera quality, audio clarity, and stream stability.

6. Make Final Adjustments

  • Based on your tests, adjust:
    • Lighting to avoid dark or overly bright spots.
    • Microphone settings to improve clarity or reduce background noise.
    • Camera angle to create a flattering and professional view.
    • Internet settings (such as switching to a different network) if necessary.

7. Final Confirmation

  • Once you’ve tested everything and made adjustments, confirm that all settings are ready for the live broadcast.
  • If everything looks and sounds good, you are ready to start your stream!
